According to German media reports, on Monday (27.10.2020) the foundation stone was laid for a new hydrogen filling station in the Frankfurt-Höchst Industrial Park. The local chemical companies can provide hydrogen in large quantities. An existing track will provide access to the future filling station.
The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV), owner of the world's largest fleet of fuel cell-powered trains, will be the first and largest customer for this energy source. The fuel cell trains are to replace diesel trains on 4 routes from 2022/2023. By using fuel cell trains, the expensive construction of overhead lines will be eliminated.
