As Opel boss Michael Lohscheller revealed in an interview with the FAZ, Opel is also forced to rethink and act in response to the strict CO2 requirements of the government. The first hydrogen vehicles with fuel cells will get tested in 2021. With regard to battery-powered cars, company boss Lohscheller describes Opel as "absolutely deliverable".

Besides the Opel Corsa and the Mocha, which are already available as pure electric vehicles, nine more models with battery and hybrid drive are to be launched in 2021. Thanks to the "environmental bonus" of up to 9000 euros, electric cars and hybrid vehicles are booming in Germany. This leads to high demand and long waiting times for all manufacturers. In contrast, the Opel boss explained, "We are absolutely deliverable with electric cars!

Also hydrogen powered fuel cell vehicles are being researched in cooperation with the PSA group. Already in 2021 Opel has plans to equip and test the Zafira model with fuel cells. Lohscheller did not provide more concrete hydrogen plans. Already more than a decade ago Opel tried out fuel cell technology with the Hydrogen4. However, the concept car never made it to production maturity.
